Aging & Choice

From my best friend, who has been a recovering alcoholic for lo these many years:

"Aging. And we pride ourselves in living longer. Here I am: weak, broke and no wood. Oh yea, haven't had a drink today, though I did take a bunch of pain killers for a gall stone. Rather like them, the pain killers; and if I don't eat fatty foods the gall stone doesn't bother me. Then of course I have no reason to take the pain killers. Hmmmm. How about some barbeque spare ribs, with sides of fried onion rings and potato chips. And bring me a bowl of Vicodin as an apertif.

"So....my mood is pretty good. My outlook sucks; but that's always about tomorrow, which never comes today. Now there's a gift from God. Can you imagine how sad that would be...to live in tomorrow."

A day at a time, I stretch towards having this humor and wisdom and most of all, honesty.
